Son moved his mother into a nursing facility and only occasionally paid her visits.
After his father passed away, a man faced the painful reality of not being able to give his mother the care and attention she deserved. Overwhelmed by his responsibilities, he made the difficult decision to place her in a nursing home, hoping she would receive the support she needed.
Despite his best intentions, it became evident that his mother was unhappy in the nursing home. Though he knew he should visit more often, his increasingly hectic life made it challenging to find time.
When he received news that his mother’s health had declined, he rushed to her side. He found her lying motionless in her bed at the facility. When he asked if there was anything he could do for her, she looked at him with a few final requests.
He promised to fulfill her last wishes without hesitation.
Her requests for new fans and a refrigerator were driven by her deteriorating condition. The old fans provided poor ventilation, making it hard for her to breathe and causing sleepless nights. The refrigerator was filled with expired food, leaving her without proper nourishment.
Her son was stunned, realizing just how close his mother was to death.
With a heavy heart, she looked him in the eyes and shared a final piece of wisdom: when his children no longer wanted him around, he should ensure they provided better circumstances than he had. “What you offer is what you receive,” she said.
The son was devastated. He understood that by placing his mother in a nursing home without her consent, he had failed her.
As children, it is our duty to ensure our elderly parents enjoy their later years in comfort and peace.
