Entitled Landlord Raised Our Rent by $650 – We Had Enough and Taught Him a Costly Lesson

When our landlord hiked the rent by an outrageous $650, it was the final straw. Living in a dilapidated apartment with a broken fridge and constant harassment had already pushed us to our limits. But Mr. Williams’ greed was the tipping point, and we decided it was time to get even.

Amber and I had put up with a year of Mr. Williams’ unannounced visits and dismissive attitude toward our complaints. His sudden rent hike was the last thing we needed as we were saving for our dream home and couldn’t afford to move. Forced to comply, we decided to plan our revenge before leaving.

We hatched a clever scheme. Before vacating, we bought tuna, rotten eggs, sour milk, and dead mice. On our final visit to the apartment, we got to work. We hid tuna behind the air vents, poured rotten eggs into the curtain rods, spilled sour milk onto the bathroom mat, and strategically placed dead mice on the ceiling fans. The trap was set.

A couple of months later, curiosity got the better of us, so we called the rental agent. To our delight, she informed us the apartment had remained vacant due to an unbearable stench. Then, Mr. Williams called, furious, demanding we fix the problem. Amber calmly responded, “Return our deposit and the extra rent, and we’ll take care of it.”

Grudgingly, he agreed. We met, collected the check, and returned to clean the apartment. As we scrubbed away the mess we’d created, a sense of satisfaction washed over us.

“Good riddance,” Amber said with a grin. “Hopefully, he’s learned his lesson.”

In the end, our creative revenge not only secured our money but also gave us the justice we sought. Sometimes, a bit of ingenuity and determination can go a long way in turning the tables on those who take advantage.
